Vecchio Rio Restaurant, Riomaggiore Italy | Cinque Terre Reader Feedback
With a nostalgic heart I visited your website today. In May-June of this year, my friend and I travelled to Europe and planned to visit Riomaggiore for several days. Upon our arrival we were overwhelmed by the beauty of the place and the warmth of the people. We ended up staying for 15 days and wished we could have stayed longer….
We opted to rent a room the first few nights we were there. The price was right for a private double room with bath. Once we had met more people in town we moved for the remainder of our stay to a full private apartment. We had a kitchen, bath, sitting area, bedroom and dining area ($40/night).
I highly recommend this way of staying in town if you plan on being there for longer than a few nights. If you can swing a week you can get lower prices on accommodations. Ask for Mario when you get to Riomaggiore or Ivo at Bar Centrale. They will make sure you find a place to stay.
The food was wonderful and I loved Vecchio Rio near the Train station, up the hill from Mama Rosa’s. Andrea and Simone will certainly charm you! Make sure you meet Enzo the butcher and Lori who makes the town’s bread and foccacia! and don’t miss Mr. and Mrs. Ranchieri’s Gelato! The best I had in all of Italy! Look for Penny and Garth the town pups as they will certainly greet you when you arrive. Make sure you see at least once sunset from the Fort at the top of the town…..I love Riomaggiore and hope to travel the Via Dell’ Amore again very soon.
