Red Trail Better Maintained Than Blue Trail in Cinque Terre | Reader Feedback

My husband and I were in Cinque Terre last weekend 2-5 July, and hiked the trail between Monterosso and Vernazza. We found the “blue trail” though now there is also a “red trail” leading out of Monterosso. We took the blue only to find that it is no longer maintained and in several spots, we had to hang on to vegetation and protruding rocks to navigate the trail. After about 45 minutes, the trail became very difficult and thankfully met up with the “red trail”. As we progressed, we could see where red was painted over the blue markings. The time posted for the red trail is 2 hours 15 minutes.

We stayed in Levanto, at the Hotel Nazionale and though there are several hiking trails from Levanto to Monterosso, we rode the train (a 7 minute ride).

We had a great time though the weather was very hot. Advise taking along lots of water, and thankfully, there were several shaded spots where one could rest and get a nice breeze off the ocean.

You’ve a good web site.
