Only Recommend Cinque Terre In The Off-Season | Reader Feedback

My boyfriend and I were in Vernazza, one of the more beautiful villages of Cinque Terre in the third week of May. Our plans were to stay for 5 nights, but due to the fact that we did not enjoy out stay, we stayed only two.

Our private room was great (find a guy named Pino…), with an excellent balcony with a view of the whole village. Unfortunately, for us, we found the local people to be quite unaccommodating, and we felt as though we were intruding on their tiny village. There were was a great number of tourists already there in the month of may, mostly Americans and Australians that we spoke to (we are Canadian). The village was basically overrun with tourists, and we felt bad. We also felt that for a budget travelers there was no accommodation that was cheap, or food for that matter, unless at the grocery store. There is really good gelato there though, as well a pesto.

Of course, the amazing hiking made up for all of this in one way. Though, I could not imagine hiking on those tiny trails during the high traveling season, as they would become congested with tourists.

Overall our experience there was only a 6/10 and I would only – ONLY recommend going there in off season.
